Thought i would open a World cup thread, so anyone with views, good wishies, or just to take the piss, can come and join in.
A cool part of football is you can be best of friends off the pitch, but huge enemies on the pitch.

I know for some of you who's country did'nt make the World Cup, because your team just wasnt good enuff, might feel left out ie: Russia, Wales, Scotland, N.Ireland, but please feel free to join in, or start a "Eurovision song contest" thread, as your Counrty may be better at singing than football:music

For the rest of us here is a Map of the 32 teams that did make the WC, I thought the map would be useful to show the Americans who is in the WC this year, and where America is:)

Also i have made a Poll where you can forcast who you "think" will win the WC, next to the name will be a rough guide to the bookmaker's odds.

Difficult to say as not always the best team wins the final, although Brasil did win in South-Korea;)
What I know for sure is, that Germany will not be in the final, neither The Netherlands will (they should be glad to survive the first round in their group which has 3 strong teams in it.

Some good points Jamie, i find they are more a team side, play as a unit very well... just think when it gets late in comp the skill will let them down...

Strengths: Ensuring the squad is singing from the same hymn sheet has been a problem in the past. The current team, though, has an excellent spirit and togetherness. Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Dutch rely on the Manchester United striker for goals and will struggle if he is not on form.

Weaknesses: Khalid Boulahrouz, Barry Opdam and Dirk Kuyt have all flourished since being given their chance, but the team does have a slightly inexperienced look about it.

Oh boy, big day tomorrow(20th) in the WC

Tuesday will decide if germany will play England in the last 16.
Both teams are top of their groups with one game to play, but if either team finish 2nd and the other come 1st, they will play in each other in the next round.

Germany will play Ecuador hoping big time they win thier group and avoid England next round.
On the other hand England really dont care who they face next round, so are resting 3 top players who have yellow cards.
Guess in a nut shell England have no fear who they will play, and i can understand why... we are soooooo much better than both of them innit !claphands

Credit where its due !
The Germans beat Argentina on penalties, to take Germany to the semi finals.

I could argue that the referees seem to favour the host nation, or the fact that Argentina's manager fuked up big time, when his side was winning 1-0.

But the Germans kept there cool to take good penalties..

Lana was a happy bunny after, but she must remember the "fat lady"!

If England win their next two games, and Germany win thier next game, they both play in the final ! :)

But I admit that the German team played amazingly good for the quality they have in the team. All credits to Klinsmann who ignored the nasty comments of Beckenbauer and succesfully went his own way.

Though I haven't seen a game, I have been watching the Highlights on ESPN
(Our Sports News Network). Seems like this WC has been exciting with some surprises.

I think it's always better (as a Spectator) when the Favorites (the teams expected to win) have Fallen and the Tournament is up for the taking. Unless it was your Team that was the Fav. lol It Just makes it more exciting when the unexpected happens.

It kind of Reminds me of our Mens College Basketball Tournament. (A.K.A March Madness) One of the best Tournaments to watch.

Football has become a game for over paid selfish spoilt prats, they will "drive" to get thier own way, they will "fake" injury to get thier own way, or will lash out in a violent and aggressive way it they dont get thier way.
